Research Australia is focused on improving the career trajectories of EMCRs and this upcoming seminar focuses on this topic.
In 2023, EMCRs from health and medical faculties across Australia participated in a comprehensive survey of the experiences and wellbeing of early and mid career academics. The resulting report is The Landscape For Emerging Health And Medical Academic Leaders In Australia, and we will be investigating the survey's findings with two of its authors, Dr George Taiaroa and Associate Professor Darshini Ayton.
In May, the NHMRC released a draft Good Institutional Practice Guide for consultation. It aims to improve institutional research culture and many of the issues it is addressing are raised in the survey. We will be joined by Professor Paul Glasziou AO, former Director of the Institute for Evidence Based Health Care, Bond University, and a member of the NHMRC's Research Quality Steering Committee, which is overseeing the development of the Guide.
We will also be joined by Larry Marlow, CEO and Principal of Marlow Hampshire and Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney. Larry has expertise in assisting the development of researchers, scientists and professionals at different stages of their careers and in systemically building integrated leadership ecosystems.
Our presenters will join webinar participants in a discussion about what needs to change and how EMCRs can better control their own careers and influence the system in which they work.
Target audience: Early and mid-career researchers in health and medical research.
